Back in the saddle

The property was bulldozer-free yesterday, and Willow and I had a successful ride. She was fine, and other than not being able to sit the trot, I was fine. We cantered some, and she was nice and relaxed.

One funny discovery -- as I was tacking up, when I pulled the saddle cover off my saddle, I saw that the stirrups were tied up for lungeing. I asked Sue, who had tacked Willow off for me following the accident, if she had tied them up for some reason. She said, no, that they were already tied up when she took the saddle off. So I guess at some point following my unplanned dismount, before I realized I was just too woozy to get back on, I had decided I was going to lunge Willow. I have no memory of making that decision, or of tying up the stirrups.

Everyone at the barn said they've started wearing their helmets again :)

Isn't is weird what we do after an accident, and how it can just go out of memory? I'm really glad you're OK (mostly) and that everyone is wearing helmets again. What a trip!

I wear my helmet whenever I go off our property, but maybe I should rethink that. Enjoy your blog !

I just started riding in a dressage barn and was amazed by how many people don't wear helmets. (I came from a primarily jumper barn) I was feeling kind of like a chicken for wearing mine, but I've got a spooky horse and it just seems safer.

So glad you're OK (Willow too!)

I'm glad you were wearing your helmet. If you hit your head at all you need to go get a new one. They are designed for one impact only and won't protect as well the next time, even if it was just a little hit. No sense in wearing it if it's not going to help, so please send the bucks and pick up a new one!

Also please head over to my blog and pick up your award!
